Get involved

Community involvement remains critical to the success of the Dunoon Project

The Dunoon Project Ltd, the project’s community-based core company, which is a charity, always welcomes local people who would like to actively support progress.

There are three ways you can do that:

  • come along to our Community Update events
  • become a company member, or
  • join the company’s volunteer Board of Directors

Community Update events
We hold two or three community update events in Dunoon every year, and everyone is invited to come along to hear how the Project is progressing.

To make sure you don’t miss out on these events, you can sign up to receive our e-newsletter by clicking on the Sign Up button at the bottom of the page. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for updates – you’ll find us using our handle @DunoonProject

Membership

Our core community organisation (a charity), The Dunoon Project Ltd (DPL), has been set up as a membership organisation.

In technical terms DPL is ‘a Company Limited by Guarantee ‘which means it issues no shares. Instead it is owned and controlled by its members. This allows both local people and those living further afield to become members, offering direct support to Dunoon Project. Only those who reside in Sandbank/Hunter’s Quay/Dunoon/South Cowal community council areas can become full voting members. Those who live nearby and work or own businesses in these areas can join as non-voting associate members.

There are two levels of Membership:

Ordinary membership
Ordinary members must be 16 years or over, be ordinarily resident in the local area and be entitled to vote there. You must support the objects and activities of the company. An Ordinary member can attend all General meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, and is entitled to receive notification of such meetings. You are entitled to exercise your right to vote on any motion put before you for consideration at the meeting. Members elect Directors to The Dunoon Project Ltd board.

Associate membership
Associate members must be individuals whose main place of business or employment is within the local area. There is no age restriction. You are not eligible to stand for election to the Board nor are you eligible to vote at any general meeting.
